Looking at this picture you are seduce at the first sight by the visual qualities if the frame. A two-dimensional composition which remind us the Mark Rothko’s works. After words, I discover that it is the eyehole of a prison cell for political prisoners of the communist regime in Romania. And the beauty of the background is in fact an overlay of paint layers that have been applied in rush over the walls that witnessed so many horrors. Dana’s pictures prove how thin is the border between sublime and horrible or remembrance and forgetfulness.
